In his photographs, architect Ralph Erskine captures the vast landscape surrounding Resolute Bay in Canada, a region so far north of the Arctic Circle it’s known as “the place without dawn.” In the 1970s, he is commissioned by the Canadian government to design a new town here. Using his camera as a tool, he documents various stages of the design process, including models of the residential buildings created to withstand the harsh Arctic climate. By the end of the decade, however, funding runs out, and the visionary project is never realised.
