“Build the new church! Do not hesitate!”*
- Léonie Geisendorf
In a letter to the Catholic parish administration in 1971, Léonie Geisendorf appeals to the priest Peter Hornung for the church to be built. After eight years of work, the church project is put on pause. The wave of demolitions in central Stockholm has
reached its peak, and now the existing
buildings are to be preserved. Therefore, she draws a new proposal
where the façade from the 1880s remains. The church bells, placed above the entrance, lead visitors to the church
space now integrated into the existing
building. The letter marks the beginning
of Geisendorf’s long struggle to push
through her proposal.
