The Star Houses meander across a field
in Örebro. The coloured areas show the
gardens that are created when the residential buildings are connected to each other.
Wind-sheltered outdoor spaces where
children can play within sight of home
are something new when the Rosta
residential area is built in the early 1950s. Also new was the idea of architects Sven Backström and Leif Reinius to connect the houses into ‘stars’ so that several apartments could share a staircase. This allows the residences to have light from two, or even, three directions.
